Mildred has one Sponsor Mildred says, "Can you see what is missing in this picture? I can't either. Having only three legs has never slowed me down! I used to live with a homeless man in Albuquerque. One day we were walking by the road and I got hit by a car. The homeless man tried to pick me up, but he hurt me and I bit him to ask him to please stop! The Police and Animal Control were called. I was treated like a criminal because I bit the man who was trying to pick me up! Jay and Ricky happened to be driving by and stopped to see if they could help. They talked to Animal Control and learned I was being taken to the Animal Shelter. Sure enough, I went to the Animal Shelter, broken leg and all. The homeless man went away in an ambulance, and I never saw him again. When Jay called the Shelter to check on me the next day, they told him I was so badly hurt I should be killed! Jay told them NO, he would take me to his own vet. Animal Control asked Jay if he was still willing to take me even with all my injuries ... and he said YES! When Jay got there to get me out of my kennel, I was so happy I ran to his car on my broken leg! He took me to see Dr. Skains. She is a great vet! She operated on me and put pins in my leg. I tried to make it work, but it just hurt so much all the time. One day when I was home alone, I chewed off a large part of my leg! Dr. Skains understood. She knew I had no feeling in the leg and it just bothered me. So she operated again, and this time she removed my leg. From the day I healed up from my surgery until this very day, I have been able to run and play with the other dogs. Ricky calls me his “baby girl”. They have promised me that I can stay here with them forever! I am so glad Ricky and Jay drove by when they did! They are the reason I’m here to tell you my story!"
