Jasmine has two Sponsors This beautiful girl is Jasmine. Jasmine has come to Smiling Dog Farms from her home in Colorado because she has some behavorial issues that just can’t be corrected. At heart, Jasmine is a sweet, lovable, and sometimes nutty, basenji/boxer mix.  Basenjis are interesting dogs! They typically don’t bark. Jasmine used to yodel and talk a lot, but she also inherited a bark from her boxer side. Jasmine has always been a high-energy dog, even training for a marathon with her human mom at one point. And she likes to think that she rules the roost. In 2002 when she was 8 months old, her human mom adopted her.  It was just Jasmine and her mom for a couple years.  During that time she chased an intruder out of her mom’s apartment, which endeared her to the whole family! Her human dad adopted her in 2004 and she lived very happily with her human family for a couple of years.  But Jasmine is a very anxious dog, and as she got older she started to become aggressive toward other dogs and even toward her parents. They turned to an animal behaviorist in 2008 for help, after she bit both of them multiple times.  They patiently worked with Jasmine for about four years.  Through this work they realized that anxiety is the root of her aggression. Her aggression toward them stems from the need to be in control. Her aggression toward other dogs is caused by fear of being attacked by them. They tried to alleviate her fear of other dogs, and to convince her that they are trustworthy leaders, but she still insists on trying to control all situations. Eventually her human brother came along. Her parents worked even harder to convince Jasmine that she was safe and could relax.  However, Jasmine still saw herself as the head of the family. As her little brother grew into a toddler, her anxiety increased and she eventually took it upon herself to discipline him. This was, of course, completely unacceptable. It was then that her parents knew that Jasmine could no longer stay with them. They emailed lots of people to try to find her a good home, but had no luck.  They happened upon the Smiling Dog Farms website, and after one look, her family knew that they had found the place for Jasmine. They knew that at Smiling Dog Farms, Jasmine could live her life in peace, without the anxiety of feeling like she has to protect and discipline her family.  Jasmine’s parents love her and she will always be a part of their family even if she lives under a different roof. They have provided her with a brand new townhome with an extra large play yard where Jasmine can keep an eye on all the activity around the farm. She won’t ever have to worry about other dogs getting close and bothering her. And she can be picky about which people she wants to be friendly with. They know that here at the farm, Jay and Ricky will give Jasmine love and care for as long as she lives! Smiling Dog Farms Giving hope to the forgotten, neglected & rejected... P.O.
