These photos show the happy, easygoing Herschel. Then there's the growling, slobbering, Look-Out-I'm-Gonna-Get-You Herschel.  I don't know why I am like this. I just know that I can change personalities in a flash. The way you know the switch is coming is to watch my eyes ... if you are petting me and you see that look coming over my eyes, get your hand out of the fence ... QUICK! Because I can go from sweet and loving to ferocious and dangerous faster than an Indy 500 race car, I ended up at the Texas City Shelter. If somebody didn’t find a place for me to go, I was going to be euthanized.  They really didn’t have a choice! I was way too unpredictable to let anyone adopt me. I’m a big boy, and when I’m having one of my spells I can be very dangerous. My friend, Tom, promised he would help me find a safe place to live. Tom contacted Smiling Dog Farms to see if a dog with my problems could live at the farm, and they said YES! OK ... I have some other issues, too! The Team at Smiling Dog Farms has to build a new cottage for me about every 4 months. I don't understand why I tear my house apart. I just can’t seem to help myself! I am glad that at Smiling Dog Farms, there are no penalties for doing stuff like this. They don’t get upset with my because of my 'quirky' personality. I'm happy living here at the farm. I have my own yard and cottage (well, what’s left of it) and I can watch the cows and donkeys in the pasture behind me! There are other dogs in my neighborhood that I can watch and talk to. There’s always something interesting going on here at the farm. Best of all ... I would not be alive to tell you my story if Smiling Dog Farms had not said YES!"
